Game Review 3

Resident Evil 5



Resident Evil 5 or known as Biohazard 5 in Japan, is a horror-survival third person shooter games that was developed and published by Capcom. Differs from its predecessor (Resident Evil 4), the game tell a story of another character, Christ Redfield and his partner that about to discover a bio-terrorist attack in Africa, that will leads to a more complex story that involves Christ long-lost partner and his nemesis. The game released in 2009, both for consoles and Windows version.

The game provides campaign mode and co-op mode, and also mercenaries mode. In campaign mode, the player can play as Christ Redfield or Sheva(if the player have completed the game once), and follow the storyline provided by the game developer. At first, the player are equipped with a knife and handgun with a limited ammo. Some ammo and potion can be found either by destroying a vase in field or item-drop by killing the enemy. The cooperation mode is slightly the same like campaign mode, it just your partner is another player instead of NPC. The player may found other weapon in game field, or can buy and upgrade them in shop. Some quick time event may occur suddenly sometimes.

Using A.G.E framework, in Action aspect, the game have provide a movement button either to walk normally or walk fast, and 360 degree of rotation to see the surrounding. The player also provided with aim and shoot/use item button (Using mouse click for the PC). And there are some buttons have already assigned for several items or weapon. There are a button to use a knife, that only deal a little damage to the enemy; and a grenade button where you can use normal frag, flash, or incendiary grenade. The games also provide button to communicate with your partner, because sometimes only with your partner you can advance to another level.

From Gameplay side, most of the main objectives are to survive and advance to the next level by either running or fight the enemy using our weapon by shooting them. The player may swap between weapon and choose them, because each weapon have their own advantage and disadvantage. As example, the player cant shoot a far or flying enemy using a shotgun, the bullet will not reach the enemy, the player should either use a sniper or machine gun instead. Some weapon were provided in several maps, such as attached machine gun to help you in surviving. Not only surviving by yourself, you must also survive with your partner, so you may either considering to share ammo or potion to your partner, you may revive your dying partner or being revived by your partner instead. It will be a "game over", if you or both you and your partner die.



From experience, the user may feel excitement at first to explore the field and shooting your way out. The experience may lead to survival, especially when the player ran out of ammo, the player may be forced to think either use movement button to run or fight only using knife which is very dangerous fighting a group of enemies. Because they ran out of ammo, player may feel fear to be killed, or because being chased. The survival instinct may caused protection/care to player's partner, because in order to complete the quest you might need your partner help and also survival instinct may lead to collection, because some quest require to collect a missing part that was hidden or scattered around the field.
