Week 7 Workshop

5 Rooms Dungeon

This week it is our job to come up with a 5 Room Dungeon for our characters from our last game we played which is Microlite 20. We have come up the design for the dungeon and the story for the game itself:

Rooms:

Room 1: is guarded by goblin and there is a lady we need to rescue
Room 2: is a trap room which is characters need to go if they fail to unlock the door in Room 1.  Over here skill check is use to see if character is able to avoid to detected by the enemy.
Room 3 : is guarded by 2 werewolf , Player need to defeat them and make decision on two treasure which can boost their attack or defend.
Room 4 : is the boss battle
Room 5 : Final treasure room and plot twist

Week 5-6 Workshop

Microlite20 RPG Games

In this week we are going to play an RPG game, a game called Microlite 20. It is quite confusing for me, especially when we try to create character. We need to define the race and classes. Each race have their own advantage. Our attack and HP also depends on dice roll, but it is bad that i always get a low number. For the quest, the lecture have provide us with "The Bandit Chief" quest that requires one GM and 2 players,which i cannot complete, because my character have already die before it reach the final stage.

Using A.G.E framework, in the action side, since we only play one quest at a time, i can only said that player can attack by rolling a die and to choose item they want to use on battle. Because the quest is about defeating monster. Maybe in other quest, player may be able to talk to the NPC which may result another story. For the gameplay, the main purpose are usually to complete the given quest. The game master will control the flow of the game, so if a quest about defeating an enemy, you must attack and survive from the battle until you complete the quest.

As for the experience player may encounter excitement at first, because the player do not know the flow of the quest, only the game master know everything. So maybe, there will be some unpredictable encounter that will makes the gameplay more exciting. There is also self-identification, which the player may feel because the player can create the character class and race by themselves, which lead to survival, because to continue the quest, the player will have to encounter battle and survive all the way round so their character will not die (since if the character die, you must create a new character to replace). Survival also links to excitement, also links to pride and joy if we ale to defeat the enemy or complete all the quest given by game master.

Week 8 Workshop

RPG Game Design


 In this week we are creating an RPG game. We took the combat system from the M20 rulebook as well as the stat the character will used. We are making a map with 5 different terrain with each terrain having their own unique quest and surprise in them. All the terrain have different level of creatures to encounter but the forest which is the first starting area are generally easier than the others. Player movement will be determined by their dexterity and armor type the higher the dexterity the faster you can travel. And the heavier your armor type the slower you can travel.




 


The player will start at the town, the town is basically the place where you will get most of your quest, and turn them in. of course there will quest that will come up when you do another quest. At first you will mostly do gathering quest and easy hunting quest. But as you progress you will be send to kill bandits and more tougher opponent. When you've done all the main quest in the starting area you will be send to the dessert and help a village that is under siege by bandits and finally the main objective is to slay the dragon in the volcano, which is the hardest terrain.

Week 4 Workshop

Territorial Acquisition Game Design

In this week we are creating a territorial acquisition themed board game.  The game is about two kingdom trying to defeat each other.  This game can only be played with two player.
 

The game start with each player flipping a coin or other method to decide the order of turn.  Each turn a player can only move his troops to one base now each base is filled with 50 soldiers. Now every time a player take that spot he will get additional 50 troops. Each player will start with 100 troops, and in order to destroy the enemy base they need to at least have 250 troops. Now, the thing is that each player don't know which area has been taken by the other player and how many troops are stationed there. Should the troop defending the area have higher number than the attacking troops then  the attack obviously failed. Now what happen, when the player loses a base, the original 50 troops that were in that area are given to the attacking player and the area is his. Player can't just attack anywhere they want, it must be within reach of their nearest base. So in order to attack, you need to make a clear path to the enemy base.

Week 9 Workshop

Puzzle Game Design

In this week we are to create a puzzle themed board games. the idea for our games was that the player have to get out of the prison using whatever resources he can get from his room, with an exception that player will be help by an anonymous message containing certain tools. 

At the start of the game player will be given an instruction to get out of the prison. Player will also be given a knife and a rock. The player are free to do whatever they want with the object and tools that they got and try to escape, but be careful as there is a guard nearby. Now the solution is that the player can try to torn the bed and take the spring to make some sort of grabbing stick using the knife and then wait for the guard to sleep/ leave and then take the key or they can try to attract the guard maybe by clogging the toilet or pretend to be sick or any ways that you think will make the guard rush into your cell and you can just kill him with your knife.

Say if you think that was too easy, then you can try to make it harder by saying that the tools are not there and you only have your bed mirror and the toilet in your cell. You can try to figure how to either stole the key or kill the guard, the player are free to imagine any possible way to escape as long as it is still logical.

Week 2 Workshop

Analyzing Classic Game


In this practical, we discussed about how do we analyze using A.G.E framework for the first time. And from the link provided, the game i choose to analyze is an Arcade basis games called Asteroid by Atari. The link is: https://www.atari.com/arcade/, there are also other games that you can try other than this games.

From the A.G.E framework, we can analyze that from the action side of the game the player can move the ship, they can rotate the ship 360 degree, they can fire the ship's weapon and use charged attack by holding the same button, and they can also teleport the ships to another location around the field.

For the Gameplay side, we can see that the main objectives is to destroy incoming asteroid by firing the weapon using weapon button ,and to survive by moving the ship or wrap to avoid the incoming asteroid.


For the Experience side, the player will experience to be self-identified as a outer space pilot. Self-identification will lead to survival, that the player must also avoid themselves to hit the asteroids. The survival may become excitement, that because the player not only have to avoid them, but also to shoot them to complete the mission. Aside from self-identification, the player may have a competition feeling, that because Asteroid game was quite popular before, many players may compare their score one to another which later lead to pride and joy to the player who got the highest highscore in the game. Note that survival may bring pride, since that the more time you survive and destroy the asteroids, the higher scores you get. 


Week 3 Workshop

Race to and End Game Design

In this week we try to create a board game based on racing games, where our game idea is developed from Mario kart which is really popular racing game on Nintendo platform. In this game can only be played by two people.


At the start of the game each player have to choose  one number in the range 1 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 30, 31 to 40, 41 to 50, 51 to 60, 61 to 70, 71 to 80, 81 to 90, 91 to100, and 100 to 110. This number is used to place lucky place so when the player step on the his/her own number he/she will get to role 1D6 and the effect will be depend on the number that show at the top of the die. This is the following effect of the die:
1. No action
2. You can choose 1 number again to set this effect ( any number from 1 to 110)
3. The enemy will get an extra turn to roll the die
4. You moved back 6 number
5. The enemy have to roll the 1D6 die, and he/she has to move back according to the number he/she get
6. Swap the position between you and your enemy

Next,  you move your piece based on the result of the 1D6 die that you roll, also when you role and you get number 6, first you move your piece and you will have the chance to roll the die again. Player who reach the number 120 first will be the winner in this game. In order to win this game you need to get the exact number to 120 or else you have to bounce back, for the example when your position in 118 and the you roll and you get 5 then you will not instantly win this game because you will be bounce back to 117 (119 for 1st move, 200 for second move, bounce back and 119 for 3rd move, 118 for 4th move and 117 for 5th move).

Game Review 5

Devil May Cry 4 


Devil May Cry 4 or known as DMC:4 is a Hack-and-Slash game, act as the fourth series of Devil May Cry franchise developed and published by Capcom in 2008 for consoles and Windows, later the iOS version came out and planned to be re-released in 2015 for PlayStation 4 and XBOX One.


In this game, the player may play as either Nero or Dante, depending on the mission. Along the story, the player may get a new weapon or upgrading the existing weapon by collecting the red-orb that can be found by destroying a boxes or defeating enemy. The player may also upgrade their character stat , by adding a new combo that will help them in their mission using Proud Soul that was calculated using the player's game play stat and awarded when the player complete a single mission.



Using A.G.E framework, the Action side of the game, the player have a movement button including a jump and dash button, they can attack the enemy by using attack button (left click if use PC), and shoot the enemy using shoot button. For Nero the game provide the player with Devil Bringer button that used to catch and bring enemy closer to the player and for Dante, the player can change its fighting Style by pressing the corresponding button. Both character are provided with Devil Trigger button that will exceed their fighting ability.

From Game play perspective,  the main purpose are to complete the mission by attack and defeat the enemy and to solves some simple puzzle or gather and search in the game field for some key-items to advance to another mission. Because the genre are Hack-and-Slash, this games mostly provide a small battle that allow user to try a variety of combos, that include the use of Devil Trigger to add more combo points that will contribute on getting the Proud Soul, but the player have to avoid the attack to maintain the combo points.

And for the Experience side the game may trigger the player instinct to Collect the required item to complete the mission and red-orb or Proud Soul that will bring more Excitement, that the player may get a new weapons or combo to defeat and slashing the enemy, that will lead to aggressiveness, where the player will use various kind combo to maintain combo points, that will lead to pride if they can get a high stat at the end of a mission and joy when the player able to complete a mission and get the wished Proud Soul to upgrade their character.


Game Review 4

SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online

SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online, simply known as SDGO is a Massive Multiplayer Online Third Person Game developed by Softmax and published for the first time in 2007 in South Korea. Several years later, other country begin to licensing agreement to operate SDGO in their country. The game provide a rich selection of robot in all Gundam series, over 350 robots are added in this games and will keep updating as long the Gundam anime running.


The game can be said to be quite simple, the player must move their robot to dodge and attack the enemy. The game allow you to buy a new robot from a capsule machine, where it will randomly pick by the machine. Each robot have their ranks, varies between A,AR,A,B,BR,CR and C. The player may also get a robot by a feature called Mix-Plan which allow you to get SS,AS,and BS rank, where the player must mix some robots to get the desired robot. The higher the rank, the higher the robot damage and performance, and the more point you spent in the game. Each robot also have their own skill that differs them from one to another, the player may add one additional skill and change its default robot's color. The game contains four mode, the first is a single player mode, where the player can only play by themselves  without other player helps. Second is cooperation mode, where you can invite up to 4 player to help you in completing the quest. Third mode is battle mode that allows 12 player to join in the game, where player can choose the battle types, for example point match (to gain the point as many as possible, where when you defeat the other teams member enemy, your team gain a point equivalent to the destroyed robot, for example if you defeat an S rank robot you got 5 points to the team, if you defeat C rank robot you got 2 point only) , dead match (allow to other team to compete again each other, where if one of the team health bar becomes zero, the opposing team will win). And the last one is training mode, that allows player to fight a dummies.

Using A.G.E framework, we can analyze from the Action, the players can have move button and turn 360 degree using mouse, a lock-on and fire button using mouse click, the player also able to boost up and down, and even dash by combining the movement button with boost button. The player may also swap weapon between melee attack, range attack, special attack and items, and some robot also provided with transform feature that allows the player to use transform button that will change the robot appearance.

In gameplay side, the main thing that we do in this games are to defeat the enemy or other player by shooting or hitting them and survive by avoiding their attack using movement button. The player may use some items to increase their stats in a short time to turn on the tide.

Seeing in experience side, at first the player may feel competition might be the main feeling that the player feel at first, because this game mostly about domination by defeating others. Competition lead to the need of communication since the game provide communication within the group, to plan a strategy against opposing teams. Competition also will lead to pride if the players win the game and will brought joy, because the winner will get more points and exp that will help the player to become more stronger. Because this games contain so many robot, player may obsessed to collect the best robot which will bring to pride to themselves being praised by other players.

Game Review 3

Resident Evil 5



Resident Evil 5 or known as Biohazard 5 in Japan, is a horror-survival third person shooter games that was developed and published by Capcom. Differs from its predecessor (Resident Evil 4), the game tell a story of another character, Christ Redfield and his partner that about to discover a bio-terrorist attack in Africa, that will leads to a more complex story that involves Christ long-lost partner and his nemesis. The game released in 2009, both for consoles and Windows version.

The game provides campaign mode and co-op mode, and also mercenaries mode. In campaign mode, the player can play as Christ Redfield or Sheva(if the player have completed the game once), and follow the storyline provided by the game developer. At first, the player are equipped with a knife and handgun with a limited ammo. Some ammo and potion can be found either by destroying a vase in field or item-drop by killing the enemy. The cooperation mode is slightly the same like campaign mode, it just your partner is another player instead of NPC. The player may found other weapon in game field, or can buy and upgrade them in shop. Some quick time event may occur suddenly sometimes.

Using A.G.E framework, in Action aspect, the game have provide a movement button either to walk normally or walk fast, and 360 degree of rotation to see the surrounding. The player also provided with aim and shoot/use item button (Using mouse click for the PC). And there are some buttons have already assigned for several items or weapon. There are a button to use a knife, that only deal a little damage to the enemy; and a grenade button where you can use normal frag, flash, or incendiary grenade. The games also provide button to communicate with your partner, because sometimes only with your partner you can advance to another level.

From Gameplay side, most of the main objectives are to survive and advance to the next level by either running or fight the enemy using our weapon by shooting them. The player may swap between weapon and choose them, because each weapon have their own advantage and disadvantage. As example, the player cant shoot a far or flying enemy using a shotgun, the bullet will not reach the enemy, the player should either use a sniper or machine gun instead. Some weapon were provided in several maps, such as attached machine gun to help you in surviving. Not only surviving by yourself, you must also survive with your partner, so you may either considering to share ammo or potion to your partner, you may revive your dying partner or being revived by your partner instead. It will be a "game over", if you or both you and your partner die.



From experience, the user may feel excitement at first to explore the field and shooting your way out. The experience may lead to survival, especially when the player ran out of ammo, the player may be forced to think either use movement button to run or fight only using knife which is very dangerous fighting a group of enemies. Because they ran out of ammo, player may feel fear to be killed, or because being chased. The survival instinct may caused protection/care to player's partner, because in order to complete the quest you might need your partner help and also survival instinct may lead to collection, because some quest require to collect a missing part that was hidden or scattered around the field.

Game Review 2

Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood


Assassin's creed Brotherhood, is a free-roam,action-adventure stealth game developed and published by Ubisoft in 2010 in consoles, and 2011 in PC. The games continue the story of Ezio in Assassin's Creed 2, act as a direct sequel where we play in third-person respective with several quest provided in the games. This games provide both single player and multi-player features.

By seeing the development of the Assassin's Creed series, we can say that gamers are truly satisfied with this game. Because it provides more weapon than its predecessor that will help the player a lot in some stealth mission, such as poison darts or crossbow. The player also able to call and use horse for long distance travel, and even combat. The main feature that this games provide is Brotherhood Assist Move (BAM), it allows player to call another assassin to help them in combat or to give command to assassinate a target. if the BAM gauge is full, the player can use a crossbow barrage known as Arrow Storm, that will execute all nearest enemies that close to your location.



By analyzing using the A.G.E perspective. In the Action side, the games provide a movement button that include a button to jump and free-run, alongside with 360 degree camera rotation, some buttons that was assigned to several weapons, a button or mouse click(PC) to assassinate or use the selected weapons or items. A button to activate BAM, a button to use map, and a button to call horse for transportation purposes.

In the Game play side, the main objectives mostly are to assassinate the selected target. All of the provided buttons are useful to help the player, the movement button are used to move around the city by climbing or running to hide ourselves and select a best place and time to perform a stealth assassination. Because some quest objectives are that the player should not alert the NPC, that is why the movement and assassination timing is very important. The other button such as weapon or potion button are very useful when the player encounter enemy(get busted), the player can choose many weapons to aid them in combat, such as sword, hidden-blade, hidden-gun, crossbow, or some darts and may use potion if player's health are low. The BAM button, is useful both for stealth or combat by killing the selected NPC. Player also able to call horse to move from one location to another location, because the map provided by the game is quite big. The player may also use fast travel feature if the player have already visit the location/area before.


By looking at the Experience side, the player may encounter a self-identification as a master assassin and some color appreciation since the map and gameplay seems to be realistic. The place set place on Rome, and take a real existed historic character in the past such as Cesare Borgia, Leonardo DaVinci and so on. Both will bring to some curiosity, because the field provide so many quest and all quest some quest need the player to investigate, either a main quest, assassination quest and racing quest. Some multiplayer competition that allows many player to compete and battle to gain more points.
The curiosity may lead to anger, because in some quest, the player may encounter a condition where NPC will disrupt you and call the other guard and will cause the player to fail the mission.  The anger may cause revenge, that the player may search and plan a better scheme to kill the patrolling enemy that have caused failure to player before.

Game Review 1

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

 


COD4 or Modern warfare is a FPS genre game that was developed by Infinityward and published by Activision in 2007 and has already been released to many kind of console. The game used a war themed storyline and included with single player or simply known as campaign mode and multi-player that allows many players to play locally or over the Internet connection. The game are thoroughly known until now for having a good collaboration of story and gameplay, that later the game wins a lot of awards and high rating from the players.

The campaign mode was quite short, we may barely can finished it in one day. Even so, this games have provided interesting mission and amazing gameplay the player may experience as a soldier. This game is not just all about "shooting the bad guy" in a warfare area, the game provide some kind of missions, example some kind of special-ops mission that include by saving a marine by infiltrating a house using night vision goggle, stealth mission which include crawling,hiding from the enemy, and the usage of sniper to take out the opponents by the captain's order, also we can play as the ship operator that play parts in giving air support to the army. 



The multiplayer mode will allows player to customize its own weapons and perks. The player can choose their main weapon or sidearm weapons, and may customize or modify them by adding laser sight, scope, or even a grenade launcher. The player can choose their perks that will give advantage to each player depend on what they choose. For example, player who choose Martyrdorm will drop a grenade when he died, so maybe it will also kill some opponent nearby. If the player are able to kill other player without dying more than 3 times, they may also get some advantage. For example, if you able to kill other player 3 times without dying, you can have the other player location for 30 seconds. The player can swap weapons in the game and also may use some weapon turret that was provided in some map with infinite bullets

Using A.G.E framework the Action part of the games involves some buttons, they are movement button that can also make player run, pointer or analog that provide for 360 degree view, crouch, crawl, jump, a button to fire and aim the weapon, swap weapon, button for flashbang and grenade,and a button to use corresponding item, there is also melee button that used for close-range counter attack. Looking at the gameplay side, the player have to move or dash through the game objective, the analog plays as the player heads, so we can look to our surrounding. Crouch, crawl, and jump may be useful for some stealth mission or to quickly cover from the enemy fire. We may counter attack the enemy by using melee button or aim and then fire weapon, swapping them between main weapon or side arm, and flashbang or grenade to blind or explode the enemy. Some item may also been used by pressing the corresponding button


For the experience side, the player may experience some competition feeling to achieve the highest point in the game by killing another player by shooting them, competition may lead to pride by being able to get the highest score and win the game that will lead to joy where the obtained exp from the competition may increase the player's level stats thus adding more weapons and perk to the players. In single player side, the player may experience a self-identification as a solider that will lead to anger when the NPC trying to shoot us and will cause aggressiveness that will make us counter attack the NPC or other player that shoot us by killing them.
